Functional Movement Technique (FMT)

There is no ‘one size fits all’ to human movement; instead, there are many ‘human shapes’ that can accomplish the same movement goals.

More critical than stereotypic standards and measurements to ‘ideal’ movements, we can provide a COMPLETE strategy for movement screening by looking at the complete person, their environment, and their unique ‘parts.’

Functional Movement Techniques (FMT) equip health and fitness professionals to master safe, simple, and effective tactics to assess ‘conscious’ movement. A variety of interventional tools (mobility balls, exercise bands, foam rollers, agility, and conditioning equipment) are used to tackle an evidence-informed, brain-based approach to movement improvement and functional performance programming.

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM, or instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, is a valuable tool for measuring tissue quality and treating areas that have scar tissue, soft tissue restrictions, chronic inflammation, or degeneration. IASTM is an effective treatment for plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel, and IT band syndrome to name a few.

Tools are typically made of stainless steel or hard plastic and designed to contour the body's shape. The therapist applies a firm but gentle pressure to the device as the mechanism glides across the tissue in a scraping fashion. A lubricant, typically lotion, is used to allow the tools to glide across the skin more freely.

Evidence shows that IASTM creates physiological changes by increasing blood flow, reducing tissue viscosity, myofascial release, interruption of pain receptors, and improvement of flexibility of underlying tissue. It is suggested that IASTM is an effective treatment intervention for reducing pain and improving function in less than three months.

Kinesio Taping®

The Kinesio Taping® Method is a therapeutic taping technique which alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin increasing interstitial space and allowing for decreased inflammation in the affected areas. The Kinesio® Taping Method can be applied in a variety of specific applications which have the ability to reduce pain and inflammation, promote post-surgical healing, optimize performance and injury prevention, and promote good circulation while assisting the body’s natural healing process.
